Supported by Hitachi High-Technologies Europe GmbH, the Department of Earth and Environment Sciences at the Ludwig-Maximilian University (LMU) of Munich will hold a workshop on analytical SEM techniques (SE, BSE, CL, STEM, EDX, EBSD) for the study of Microstructure and Texture of Biological Hard Tissues and Geological Materials.
29th July to 2nd August, 2019
LMU Munich, Department of Earth and Environment Sciences, Theresienstr. 41, 80333 Munich
LMU Munich
This workshop will introduce the principles of microstructure and texture characterization of biological and geological materials. It will cover a wide spectrum of materials, ranging from carbonate biological hard tissues, various types of sedimentary, magmatic and metamorphic rocks to industrially synthesized single- and polycrystalline materials.
Course attendees will train conventional-, low-kV EBSD and EDS data acquisition, as well as basic and advanced EBSD/EDS data evaluation and interpretation.
Further, it will introduce to SE, BSE, CL and STEM imaging and sample preparation of the different types of materials for EBSD and EDS analysis.
