A unit of weight that was widely used in the Ancient Orient, it also often featured in the Bible. In an era of bartering for goods, it was commonly used in many regions as a standard for bartering that satisfied all parties. Many šiqlu weights have been excavated. This unit is based on the sexagesimal system, so 60 šiqlus equals 1 mina (see p.92).
