Old conventional Japanese unit. Equal to 5 shaku (1.515 m) or 6 shaku (1.818 m) depending on the product or profession.
Length of both outstretched arms
In the worlds of Kojiki and Nihon Shoki and in the age of the gods, the length of both fully outstretched arms was called the “hiro”. It was then given the Chinese character of “尋”, which has the same meaning in China. Even now in the countryside it is actively used to measure the length of rope.
