Forecast of Future Business Environment

1.5°C case

Regulations for decarbonization are being established and strengthened in many countries. One of these is regulation for motor vehicle exhaust emissions, which are increasingly enforced in many parts of the world. This triggers an increasing demand of electric vehicles (EV) and corresponding decline of the number of vehicles with CO2 emissions.
As a result of these, the mining industry will expand its operations to fulfill the need of mineral resources while recycling technology will be advanced. The CO2 labeling needs for each item of merchandise will also be increasing, so CO2 emissions information will need to be shared with partner corporations.

4°C case

Controls on consumption of gasoline and other such fuels will not become more stringent, and a modal shift will not advance worldwide. Vehicles with conventional internal combustion engines will be the mainstream.
As a result of rapidly increasing damage from typhoons, flood, and other such natural disasters that occur due to climate change, there is a need to make our business sites as well as the manufacturing and physical distribution sites of our suppliers more resilient.

Hitachi High-Tech's Response

  1. Collaborate with partner corporations
We will contribute to carbon neutrality in the supply chain by working cooperatively with partner corporations in the EV and lithium-ion battery (LiB) business fields.
As demand expands in the times ahead for LiB reuse and for conversion into recycled products, growing importance will be placed on increasing the speed and accuracy of evaluation of battery residual performance. We will therefore provide solutions using the method “Rapid Diagnostics Method of Battery Degradation”, which we developed together with Hitachi, Ltd.
  2. Business continuity plans (BCP) in response to natural disasters
Based on our BCP and partner corporations’ BCP, we are addressing the trend of increasing numbers of natural disasters by strengthening our capability for dealing with business interruption risk.
