X-ray CT is a technology to visualize the internal structure of an object non-destructively in three dimensions by exposing it to X-rays. Hitachi High-Tech’s high-energy X-ray CT systems enable high-precision visualization of internal structures across a broad range of batteries—from liquid-type lithium-ion batteries (LIB) to all-solid-state batteries and fuel cells. With world-class 9 MV high-energy X-rays, the systems are particularly suited for observing the internal structure of battery packs and modules. This makes it a powerful tool for streamlining development and enhancing quality control. It can capture full images of large and heavy battery packs and modules, which are difficult or impossible to inspect with conventional X-ray CT systems. Those systems contribute to verifying assembly accuracy, supporting reverse engineering, and assisting with market defect and degradation analysis.
Examples of applications for high-energy X-ray CT systems include:
• Observation of the entire battery pack following durability and impact testing
• Reverse engineering in the battery development process
• Battery pack and battery module market defect and degradation analysis
• Confirming the inner structure of a battery pack and module
