We delivered a tabletop electron microscope to the August 18-19 "Children's Science Class" held at Teikyo Heisei University for children to experience the 'micro world'.

Based at Chiharadai campus, this event was held with the aim of strengthening relations with local residents and was organized cooperatively by the university and the community. Activities were split into groups, one to make collection tools and gathering ants, and a group to examine the samples brought with the electron microscope.

Electron microscope observations were made of various samples from fossils, vegetable leaves and pollen to the ants which were collected. Surprised voices were raised at the discovery of an "unknown world of familiar things".
