The CSR/Corporate Social Responsibility Department of Hitachi High-Tech, Chinese business units delivered lessons using tabletop electron microscopes at Japanese schools in Shanghai, Dalian, and Shenzhen. A total of 15 lessons were taught to children from the first grade of elementary school to the third grade of junior high school on Monday October 30 to Tuesday November 7 (number of children taught: 320 in Shanghai, 58 in Dalian, 272 in Shenzhen).

The content of the lessons varied depending on region and grade, so preparing samples in advance was hard work. However, it proved worthwhile, with the lessons being very well received by students and teachers alike.

In addition, President Nakae and others from Hitachi East Asia Ltd, came along to observe the final day of lessons in Shenzhen, and seemed to create a great deal of interest in activities in support of science education.

Chinese business units are already delivering lessons in local schools with local staff acting as teachers, but these activities will be carried out proactively in the future based on the experience in Japanese schools on this occasion.
