Remote Electron Microscopy Event held at High-School in Taiwan

Taoyuan Municipal Wu-ling Senior High-School, Taiwan
2021/10-11

In October and November 2021, Hitachi High-Tech Taiwan Corporation carried out science support lessons with an electron microscope at Taoyuan Municipal Wu-Lin Senior High-School.

Due to COVID restrictions, a remote lesson was given first in October online. The company was introduced, and the basic operations of the electron microscope were explained. Then in November an actual electron microscope was brought into the school for an outreach lesson. In this class, 2nd year students observed the tube feet* of a sea urchin as part of their science research projects.

The results of this observation are to be exhibited at the National High-School Science Exhibition and are expected to be awarded a top prize.

*
Tube-feet: A tubular organ that expands and contracts, it’s tip becoming a sucker-like shape. They enable the sea urchin to move and also to grasp prey.
