Beautiful pink petals are floating on the clear water.
The beauty is exactly what the Japanese people have loved since the ancient times.
But they are not the petals.
They are actually a crystallization of amorphous silicon.

Prize winning photo at 50th photo contest hosted by the Japanese Society of Electron Microscopy in 1994.

Instrument: Transmission Electron Microscope H-9000NAR

Magnification : × 2,500

Accelerating voltage : 300 kV
