Medical Instruments 1st Dept.

Medical Instruments 1st Dept.

History of the Department

In the Medical Instruments 1st Dept., we provide after-sales service for biochemical auto-analyzers and patient sample pre-processing equipment that is used in hospitals and private testing centers, and we have a nationwide network of 33 bases (as of April 2024) that provide field support on a 24-hour basis.
In the last 10 years, we have also worked in various product fields other than biochemical auto-analyzers, including the following.
In 2014, we started to accept maintenance contracts for proton beam therapy systems (PROBEAT-RT) and began installation and maintenance work for the Verigene System genetic testing device. In 2015, we started selling the new WPSHⅡ pure water system made by Merck, and this has grown into a very large business.
In 2016, we started providing comprehensive maintenance services for automated analyzers manufactured and sold by Roche Diagnostics K.K.
In 2019, with the aim of reducing the workload of engineers at bases where the workload has increased, we started outsourcing some maintenance-related work to outside companies.

Market Trends and Product Changes

In 2014, the 3100 was launched as the successor to the 7020 small-sized segment model.
In 2016, LABOSPECT 008α,the successor to the large-sized segment LABOSPECT 008, was launched.
In 2017, the 3500 was launched, which is a combined analyzer that can perform biochemical tests, immunological tests using light scattering analysis, and blood coagulation tests using coagulation time measurement, all on a single device.
In 2020, due to the impact of the global spread of the new coronavirus, there was a decrease in the number of deliveries due to a decrease in revenue due to a decrease in the number of patients, a decrease in compensation for medical personnel, and a worsening of hospital management, as well as postponement of equipment replacement due to a decrease in capital investment.
In 2023, the company began offering the online system LABOSPECT PlaNet, which aims to support the streamlining of laboratory testing operations by collecting information on the operation of biochemical autoanalyzers in the cloud.
In 2024, with the establishment of the new Medical Instruments 2nd Dept., we began promoting the development of multi-engineers to support the LabFLEX 2600/3500 specimen preprocessing device.

Future Prospects

The business environment surrounding Medical Instruments 1st Dept. is changing rapidly in the following ways.
・Employment issues and labor shortages associated with the declining birthrate and aging population (2025 problem)
・Balancing childcare and nursing care, the diversification of the needs of working people
・Regulation of overtime hours by law
In addition, current trends in the service industry also indicate that
・Clarify the scope of service provision through SLA (Service Level Agreement) (contract-based)
・Set the response level according to the contract details.
・We emphasize creating a positive cycle that increases ES (Employee Satisfaction) and also increases CS (Customer Success).
Therefore, in the Medical Instruments 1st Dept., major changes are required, such as a review of existing service methods and human resource foundations, and the way service engineers work has also changed significantly after the coronavirus response, and we will also aim to strengthen organizational capabilities in terms of operational efficiency, safety, and management systems.
In addition, by integrating operations with the Medical Instruments 2nd Dept., we will also create synergies in our service business, such as comprehensive maintenance and integrated maintenance contracts.
In order to strengthen the human resource base that supports the service, we will contribute to Hitachi High-Tech's service business by developing global human resources and promoting the acquisition of multi-skills in product knowledge and skills to expand the business domain of the Hitachi High-Tech Healthcare Business Unit.
