Industrial Instruments Dept.

Industrial Instruments Dept.

History of the Department

It was established as the "Instrument Service Department" when the company was founded in 1965, and has been consistently responsible for field services for industrial instruments and measurement and control systems. During this time, the installation and commissioning department was transferred to a group company in 1982, and the instrumentation construction department was transferred to a group company in 1987, and this is the current situation.
In addition, the manufacturing plant was integrated into Hitachi High-Tech Solutions in October 2013, following a series of changes that saw it move from the Measuring Instruments Division of Hitachi, Ltd. to Hitachi Naka Electronics, and then to Hitachi High-Tech Control Systems, and the sales department move from Nissei Sangyo and Nissei Engineering to Hitachi High-Tech Trading.
Despite this transition, the Hitachi High-Tech Group is working to expand its OT business, which provides solutions using measurement, control, and digital technologies, and to ensure the stable operation of existing products, with manufacturing, sales, and services working as one.
In addition, in order to expand sales to public sector demand, we began posting staff to Hitachi's branch offices in 1985, and as of April 2024, seven staff are posted there. In addition, in line with the business strategy of the Water and Environmental Business Unit, we began posting staff to Hitachi Public Service to support sales activities for industrial instruments and measurement and control systems.
The "Hitachi Instruments Training Center", which has been in operation since 1993, introduced the EX System in March 2020, enabling technical training that is close to the customer's environment, and currently holds about 50 courses a year to provide technical support to customers.
The products of the Industrial Instruments Dept. are used in important equipment that supports social infrastructure, and through our daily service activities we contribute to maintaining reliability and stable operation. In the case of corrective maintenance, where the renewal of aging equipment is carried out based on the results of preventive maintenance, the Construction Control Center, which was established in 2003, has taken the lead in ensuring thorough construction safety, quality and process management through the appropriate construction management based on the Construction Business Act. These activities were recognized, and in 2006 we were awarded the "Award for Excellence in Construction " of Hitachi Ltd.,. Even now, we are working with the company-wide construction management center to ensure compliance, safety and quality.

Strengthening of the service system

In order to strengthen our service system, we hold around 40 departmental seminars a year, with a total of around 200 people attending each year. A certification system is in place for all engineers, with technical levels managed for each product group through written tests and practical tests using role-play.
The model plant in the Higashi-Kanto Branch Office, which had been used as a base for practical training since 2014, was renovated, and a new model plant was completed in March 2023. The new model plant has facilities on the first floor for mainly practicing with industrial instruments and water quality meters, and facilities on the second floor for practicing with EX systems. In addition to training in Industrial Instruments Dept., this facility is used for a variety of purposes, including training schools for customers, education for affiliated companies such as Hitachi, and student internships.

Market Trends and Product Changes

There is an accelerating trend towards manufacturing DX, which is centered on the manufacturing industry and responds to the streamlining and miniaturization of production facilities. Hitachi High-Tech Solutions has released a number of products, including the "BD-CUBE" predictive and diagnostic system, which automatically analyzes process data, and the "LabDAMS" inspection data management system, which ensures data reliability in quality inspections and improves operational efficiency through MES (manufacturing execution systems). The company supports its customers in solving their problems using OT (Operational Technology: control and operation technology) that it has cultivated over the years.
In terms of services, in order to respond to the rapidly changing market demands due to the restrictions on movement caused by the new coronavirus and the development of AI and IoT technology after 2020, we are working on a shift to services that are conscious of the value provided to customers, such as the development of new remote monitoring services, security measures, and predictive and prescriptive diagnostic services.
In the water supply business, the Waterworks Law was revised in December 2018 in response to issues such as a decrease in water demand due to a declining population, aging facilities, and a shortage of human resources. Hitachi, which has been promoting public-private partnerships in the water supply sector, has been commissioned by local government waterworks departments to undertake the renewal, operation and maintenance of water supply facilities as a single package, and has established a special-purpose company (Hakodate Aqua Solution) to operate the project, which will run for 22 years from April 2019. Our company has also invested in and participated in public-private partnership-type projects, and is working to solve social issues.

Future Prospects

We will contribute to the development of a safe, secure and healthy society by providing stable operation through technical services for products that operate in the industrial field, which realizes a prosperous life, and by expanding into a service business that solves social and customer issues.
