Symbol: Q (級) / Base data: Printing.
Unit that expresses the size of text in phototypesetting.
From an era of typesetting to an era of DTP
In the Japanese printing sector, ”Q (級)” has been used together with “point” since the typesetting era to express the size of text. “Q” stands for quarter (1/4), and 1Q = 0.25 mm. 4Q = 1 mm, so it is easy to calculate and convenient. As a result, it is still used even though the typesetting era has moved onto a DTP era.
