Symbol: P / Base data: viscosity.
It is the viscosity of a fluid in which a tangential force of 1 dyne per square centimeter maintains a difference in velocity of 1 centimeter per second between two parallel planes 1 centimeter apart.
Measured by the force applied by a flow on an inside wall
Supposing that a sticky substance is flowing inside a pipe. If the flow approaches 1cm of the inside wall, it will slow down by 1 centimeter per second. When a force of 1 dyne (one hundred-thousandth of 1 newton) per square centimeter is generated in the direction of the flow, the viscosity at that time will be 1 poise.
