Striking likeness to the modern age!? Ancient units of mass

Base data: mass.
An indigenous unit widely used in the ancient Orient. 502 g in the Persian daric system.

Twice the weight of a mina is virtually 1kg

Unit of weight that originated in the ancient Orient. Twice the weight of a mina is a “heavy mina” and that is virtually the same weight as the modern day 1 kg. In other words, it is equal to the weight of cubic water from one-tenth of the previously-mentioned double-cubit (about 1 m). It is surprisingly close to the metric system. A coincidence, perhaps?
