The ancient Mayan people were well-versed in mathematics and astronomy and had a complex calendar. A day was called a “kin” and 20 kin, which is their equivalent to a month, was called an “uinal”. 18 uinals and a short month (uayeb) consisting only of 5 kin made up a year of 365 days.
