Standard of value evaluation in ancient Ireland
Only in an ancient society based on cattle-breeding
In ancient Ireland, milking cows were used to determine the trading and compensation value of goods. One milking cow was “1 sed” and three were equal to “1 cumal”. So, in other words, 3 seds are equivalent to 1 cumal. It’s a bit of a primitive value system unique to an ancient society based on cattle-breeding.
