Kanejaku (carpenter's square) that became basis for the Meiji government’s shaku-kan system
The “shaku” first came from China. The “kanejaku” ruler, which entered Japan in the 8th century at the same time as architectural technology, is extremely useful and loved by carpenters. This ruler has been passed down unchanged in size despite the fact that the official shaku unit of China has been changed throughout the times. The Meiji government created the “Shaku-kan system” based on this.
