Volunteer Members and Their Families Conduct Forest Maintenance at “Hitachi High-Tech Yasato Forest”
The Hitachi High-Tech Group has been engaged in a 60-year forestry project since 2005 at the “Hitachi High-Tech Yasato Forest”, a national forest leased in Ishioka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, aimed at achieving corporate management in harmony with the global environment.
On Saturday, April 19, as part of the forestry activities at Hitachi High-Tech Yasato Forest, volunteer members from the Hitachi High-Tech Group, along with their families and secretariat staff, participated in forest maintenance activities with the cooperation of the Ibaraki Forest Management Office and the Haga District Forest Association.
After the secretariat staff explained the significance of the Hitachi High-Tech Yasato Forest activities and the day’s schedule at the meeting point, the participants hiked up the mountain toward the forest.
Blessed with good weather, after a one-hour hike one way, participants engaged in branch cutting and thinning work. The branch cutting process, which involves removing branches from their base at the trunk, helps produce high-quality trees. Thinning, which involves removing some trees from an overcrowded forest, creates a healthy forest where sunlight can penetrate effectively. During the thinning work, participants had valuable experiences such as smelling the fresh scent from the cross section of newly cut trees and feeling the moisture of the wood, connecting with the life force of the trees.
The Hitachi High-Tech Group conducts forestry activities striving to create a rich future for both humans and nature.
