Volunteer Members and Their Families Take Part in Forest Maintenance (Thinning) at “Hitachi High-Tech Yasato Forest”
In its pursuit of corporate management in harmony with the global environment, the Hitachi High-Tech Group has leased a national forest in Ishioka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and since 2005 has been carrying out a 60-year forest stewardship program there under the name “Hitachi High-Tech Yasato Forest.”
As part of this program, on Saturday, April 25, volunteer members of the Hitachi High-Tech Group, their families, and organizing staff took part in forest stewardship activities with the cooperation of the Ibaraki District Forest Office and the Haga District Forestry Cooperative.
At the meeting point, participants heard from the organizing staff about the significance of the activity and the plan for the day, and then set off up the mountain toward the Hitachi High-Tech Yasato Forest.
The weather was fine, and after about an hour of hiking to the site, participants split into groups to carry out the thinning work. Thinning involves removing some trees to prevent a planted forest from becoming overcrowded. Allowing sunlight to reach the forest floor keeps the forest healthy and helps produce high-quality timber.
The Hitachi High-Tech Group carries out forest stewardship activities to create a rich future for both humans and nature.
