Biodiversity Conservation at Home — Making Nature Photo Frames

As part of its biodiversity conservation activities in the Tokyo area, the Hitachi High-Tech Group carries out works such as forest maintenance and the installation of insect hotels at Takao Forest Nature School, which is run by the SEVEN-ELEVEN FOUNDATION.

The Sustainability Management Department of CSR Division also runs a “biodiversity conservation activities you can do from home” program, so colleagues and their families who couldn’t join on-site activities can still learn about the Hitachi High-Tech Group’s biodiversity conservation activities and connect with nature.

This time, 36 Hitachi High-Tech Group colleagues in Japan made nature photo frames from wood, branches, pinecones, and other natural materials gathered at Takao Forest Nature School.

Participants combined the branches and pinecones sent to them with flowers, ribbons, and other finishing touches, each creating a warm, distinctive piece that brought their own ideas to life. Many also sent photos of their finished frames and work in progress, and the activity drew many responses from participants.

This initiative made good use of natural materials gathered on the very site where the forest maintenance had been carried out. We hope that making these frames offers a chance to reflect on how people relate to natural forests, and on forest biodiversity and why it matters.

The Sustainability Management Department will continue to promote biodiversity conservation activities, both online and on site, running programs that make it easy for more colleagues to take part, whether in the forest or at home.
