Hitachi High-Tech Group Holds 2025 Autumn Activities at Takao Forest Nature School
The Hitachi High-Tech Group carries out forest maintenance and biodiversity conservation activities in the forest conservation area of Takao Forest Nature School (Hachioji City, Tokyo), operated by the the SEVEN-ELEVEN FOUNDATION, under the guidance of nature school staff.
On Saturday, October 4, a total of 35 people—volunteer members and their families, as well as administrative staff—participated in the autumn activities at Takao Forest Nature School. Unfortunately, the scheduled forest maintenance work was canceled due to rain, but we adapted the program to focus on forest exploration instead.
The session began with nature school staff explaining the activities and sharing how the forest has gradually been improved through past efforts. Then, the administrative staff showed and described observation images of autumn leaves collected from Takao Forest using a TM4000 Series tabletop microscope.
This time, they focused on the mystery of how leaves change color by comparing images of green leaves with those of red-colored leaves, and introduced the mechanisms behind nature’s seasonal transformations, connecting this to Hitachi High-Tech Group products.
We then moved to the forest area for an exploration and observation tour as nature school staff explained the flora and fauna living in Takao Forest. We were able to observe areas we usually just pass through on our way to the maintenance sites. We also checked out the insect hotel and confirmed that insects were using the one maintained by spring activity participants.
During a craft workshop that concluded the day, we made Christmas wreaths using kudzu vines obtained while maintaining Takao Forest. Everyone felt the gift of nature as they crafted their own unique pieces.
Even in the rain, the forest walk deepened our connection with nature and with each other—a heartwarming experience.
