Tokyo, September 1, 2020 – Hitachi High-Tech Corporation today announced that the Hitachi DS3000 compact capillary electrophoresis (CE) sequencer will be released for sale in Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan through local agencies. The Hitachi DS3000 has been developed in collaboration between Hitachi High-Tech Corporation (President and CEO: Masahiro Miyazaki/ Hitachi High-Tech) and Promega Corporation (Chairman and CEO: William A. Linton, Main office: Madison, Wisconsin, USA/ Promega).

DNA sequencers are used in genetic analysis research: the analysis of the genetic information possessed by all types of organisms, including viruses, microbes and humans. The instruments are used to automatically read and analyze the DNA base sequences that contain the organisms' genetic information. Next-generation sequencers in particular can analyze a large volume of gene sequences at once, and are now widely used. However, among small-scale research facilities in the pharmaceutical and food industries and universities, there is also a demand for gene sample analysis that can be performed in a short time and at relatively low cost. Compact first-generation CE sequencers can meet the needs of these research sites, and steady demand is expected.
The Hitachi DS3000 CE sequencer delivers world-class high performance and high-speed processing in a compact form, thanks to capillary and laser-irradiation technologies developed by Hitachi High-Tech over many years. The product also has an eco-friendly design that helps reduce CO2 emissions during product use — the stage in the value chain that accounts for the majority of the CO2 emissions and provides customers with a lesser environmental load.
The main merits of the Hitachi DS3000 are as follows.

1.Space Saving and Designed for Convenience

The DS3000 is equipped with a touch screen, allowing users to check the status at a glance. The measurement setup process is simplified, making it easier to perform genetic analysis. It has a compact design with a far smaller footprint than conventional models, saving space and making it easier to use. In addition, the remote monitoring system allows remote access to the device, and general-purpose PCs can be used to output reports and run secondary analysis software, reducing equipment initial costs.

2.Reduced Maintenance

A cartridge system is used for the consumables inside the device, allowing easy installation. Additionally, the delivery mechanism is pumpless, eliminating the need for conventional cleaning processes and reducing maintenance time and costs. The new laser diode (LD) light source also illuminates quicker and lasts longer than conventional light sources, which are complicated and expensive to replace.

The Hitachi DS3000 is expected to be adopted in places like universities' core facilities and small-scale research laboratories, as it is an easy-to-use, maneuverable CE sequencer that can be used for things like verifying large volumes of gene-sequence data that have been analyzed by next-generation sequencers and performing fragment analysis*1 used in human identification, etc.
Through developing this product, Hitachi High-Tech Group aims to further expand the DNA sequencer business in the Bio/Healthcare market, an area of key focus.
