Formulating environmental action plans and promoting environmental activities
The Hitachi Group formulates an Environmental Action Plan every three years, setting concrete action items and targets as part of its long‑term environmental goals, known as “Hitachi Environmental Innovation 2050.” The Hitachi High-Tech Group promotes this plan as part of One Hitachi while also implementing its own initiatives to actively reduce environmental impact. The following are key target values for the priority areas of “Decarbonization,” “Circular Economy,” and “Nature Positive” in the Environmental Action Plan (excerpted).

Summary of FY2024 environmental activities and FY2025–2027 Environmental Action Plan
The Hitachi High-Tech Group sets medium- to long-term targets based on its environmental vision and develops and implements concrete environmental action plans to help achieve a sustainable society.
Bringing the results of our environmental activities to society
We aim to tackle environmental issues throughout the supply chain.
Hitachi High-Tech was among the first companies in the Hitachi Group to begin working toward carbon neutrality. By FY2023, we had reduced total CO2 emissions by approximately 31% compared with FY2018, prior to the start of our initiatives. We continue to make steady progress toward our ambitious targets, including achieving zero CO2 emissions from power and fuel consumption by FY2027. Our environmental performance is evaluated by third‑party organizations, and we will continue to fulfill our responsibility as a supplier by addressing environmental issues across the entire supply chain.
Aiming to achieve carbon neutrality at all domestic and overseas sites by FY2027 and net-zero emissions across the entire value chain by FY2050
Hitachi High-Tech achieved carbon neutrality at four business sites in 2021, ahead of other companies in the Hitachi Group. Since then, we have continued these efforts and steadily expanded carbon neutrality to factories and offices in Japan and overseas, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality at all Group sites by FY2027.

CDP*2, which conducts environmental information surveys and disclosures on a global basis, selected Hitachi High-Tech as a company in the Corporate A List, the highest possible rating, in the two areas of “climate change” and “water security.”
Furthermore, we were also selected as a Supplier Engagement Leader in recognition of our exemplary efforts undertaken across the entire supply chain.
We were highly rated for our initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain in the area of climate change and for our analyses and initiatives pertaining to businesses and the natural environment, along with the transparency of our information disclosures, in the area of water security.

Further strengthening our natural capital initiatives:
Promoting information disclosures based on the TNFD framework
Promoting information disclosures based on the TNFD framework
We endorse the principles of TNFD*3, which seeks to establish an international framework for visualizing dependencies and impacts on the natural environment, and we participate in the TNFD Forum. Furthermore, we are working to appropriately identify and disclose risks and opportunities related to natural capital based on the information disclosure framework advocated by TNFD.
Employee-led biodiversity conservation activities
The following are some examples of our environmental conservation activities, including silviculture (forest cultivation and management) and forest maintenance activities carried out by our employees on a voluntary basis.
Environmental activities in the Company
Example1
We have leased a national forest in Ishioka-shi, Ibaraki Prefecture, and engaged in silviculture activities there since 2005 under the name “Hitachi High-Tech Yasato Forest.”
Example2
In Sunto-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture, we named a woodland spanning approximately 44,000 m2 the “Woodlands of Hitachi High-Tech Science” and restored it to a vibrant natural environment where many different species coexist.
Example3
We carry out maintenance work and biodiversity conservation activities in the forest maintenance area of the Takao Forest Nature School run by the SEVEN-ELEVEN FOUNDATION as an activity site in the suburbs of Tokyo.
The Hitachi High-Tech Group has identified key issues (materiality) that must be addressed through its business activities in order to achieve a sustainable society, defining these as its “sustainability focus areas.”
*1)Number of companies disclosing information in the area of climate change for FY2024: More than 24,800
*2)CDP is an international non-profit organization that seeks to promote environmental information disclosure by companies and local governments.
*3)The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is an international organization that provides a disclosure framework designed to clarify how changes in the natural environment and biodiversity affect corporate activities and to promote sustainable decision‑making. This framework aims to steer capital flows toward outcomes that have a positive impact on nature.
