Science Outreach Lessons for School in Beijing

Beijing Yucai Tongzhou School, Beijing, China
2021/6/10

On June 10th, a science outreach class using the TM4000 Tabletop Microscope was held for 180 pupils of Beijing Yucai Tongzhou School as a collaboration between Hitachi China, Hitachi High-Tech Scientific Solutions, Beijing and Hitachi High-Tech Shanghai.

Due to the suspension of activities as a result of the COVID-19 pandeminc, this was the first outreach lesson the company had held in the region in two years.

Unusually, this lesson was not held in a classroom, but in the large hall of the school. On a huge screen, powerful images that children could only previously have experienced in a movie theatre, such as a close-up of the mouth of a mosquito, were projected.

Various samples were observed such as leaf Stomata, a hair from one of the children at the school and a comparison of sugar particles with the sand from one of Beijing’s many sandstorms. The pupils were very interested in the lesson and had lots of questions, such as how to operate the microscope and how to make samples.

Going forwards, we will continue to collaborate and actively carry out these science outreach activities.
