Hitachi High-Tech and Hitachi High-Tech Fielding have carried out their first collaboration remote STEM Outreach classes at two Elementary schools (Two 6th year classes of 66 students at Imaizumi Elementary school in Kamakura City and a class of 19 6th grade students at Hanazono Elementary School in Shinjuku).

In the first half of the lesson, the children learned about Biomimetics, and discovered how observing the microscopic parts of insects and plants can lead to inventions we use in our everyday lives. This was followed by an experiment using yogurt pots lids which the class making predictions and sharing ideas with each other.

The children were absorbed by being able to experience a microscopic world that is not normally visible, and afterwards they left comments for us, such as their delight at discovering the structure of an ant’s eye and remarking on how fun it was to see things that could not normally be seen and to discover the secrets of yogurt pot lids.

Going forwards, Hitachi High-Tech Fielding will continue to support science education for children and building connections with the local community.
