On February 19, a science outreach class was held at Midori Elementary School in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo. The one-hour lesson, conducted during science club time, included a lecture on microscopes and provided hands-on experience for 24 students in grades 4 to 6.
The lesson began with an introduction to the Hitachi High-Tech Group, followed by a lecture on the fundamentals of microscopes. The instructor from Hitachi High-Tech explained the differences among electron microscopes, loupes, stereomicroscopes, and optical microscopes. He also presented practical examples of biomimetics that utilize electron microscopes.
At the end of the class, 6 representatives from each grade operated the microscope. With the instructor’s guidance, they manipulated the microscopes and had fun observing samples of their choice, such as ants, hair, and mechanical pencil lead. The observation of hair was especially thrilling, as they touched their own hair while appreciating the characteristics highlighted through the microscope.
Going forward, we will continue to provide engaging and enjoyable science outreach classes utilizing our products.
