Kansai Branch Hosts Summer Parent-Child Science Event “Microscopic Life Observation”

On Saturday, August 2, the Kansai Branch held a parent-child science education event, Microscopic Life Observation, in its first-floor laboratory. This event is part of a long-running science experience program inspired by university professors’ desire to give children early exposure to the world of science. It is intended for children and students before college age, helping them explore pathways toward their dreams of becoming scientists.

This year, we welcomed 12 families from across the country. Children observed a variety of samples they brought with them, first using an optical microscope and then an electron microscope, comparing the differences in what they could see.

Participants shared positive feedback, such as: “Opportunities for elementary school children and younger to use electron microscopes are extremely rare in Japan. We found this event online and had a truly valuable experience.” Through these hands-on experiences of “touching, seeing, analyzing, and learning,” the children appeared to deepen their interest in the microscopic world and feel more connected to science.

The Kansai Branch will continue to actively engage in social contribution activities through children’s science education, contributing to the sustainable development of science and industry.
