GENKI LABO × Hitachi High-Tech: Summer Vacation Experiment Event for Employees’ Families
Hitachi High-Tech Corporation Headquarters, Tokyo
2026/8/5
Hitachi High-Tech Group holds an annual summer vacation science event for employees’ families. For the 11th event, science artist Genki Ichioka (GENKI LABO) served as the instructor. A total of 85 children participated either at the venue or online.
During the event, participants conducted three familiar science experiments related to the scientific analytical instruments developed by the Hitachi High-Tech Group. In the paper chromatography experiment, they separated the different colors contained in marker ink and learned about the principle behind high-performance liquid chromatography. In the black-light experiment, they observed fluorescent substances found in everyday objects and learned about the role of a fluorescence spectrophotometer. Finally, in an experiment using water, ice, and salt to freeze juice, they experienced changes in temperature while learning how thermal analyzers work.
The participating children shared comments such as, “I was surprised that the black ink separated into purple,” “It was fun looking for things that glow under a black light,” and “I love making things, so I really enjoyed it.” Employees also said that the event gave them an opportunity to explore the wonders of everyday science with their children and deepened their understanding of the company’s products.
Hitachi High-Tech will continue to foster children’s interest in science through science education support while sharing the technologies of the Hitachi High-Tech Group and the value they offer.
