We formed particulate crystals of W-SI-O using silicon single crystals as seeds. Each particulate was only tens of nanometers in size, but the particulates grew on the silicon seed just like coral formations. The photo shows the image of one such particulate in the dark field.

At 51st photo contest hosted by the Japanese Society of Electron Microscopy in 1995.
